Nordland Bunad Figurine

The Nordland bunad figurine portrays a woman’s bunad from the county of Nordland, Norway. The first Nordland bunad was shown at Hålogaland Young people’s society meetings in Leirfjord in 1928. It was meant to be a formal costume for all of North Norway. This bunad is also called “Vefsnbunad” because the idea was born in Vefsn. The bunad’s cut was copied from a wedding dress from Ravassåsen in Vefsn. The embroidery was taken from a purse from Røyten in Vefsn and the apron’s pattern came from Hattfjelldal. The hat was copied after the “black hat” that was widely used in the last part of the 19th century, but it now has the same color as the dress, which can be either green or blue. The style of the Northern counties is a much simpler style than in example the Hardanger bunad.
